Our 8th grade World Cultures class finished up their unit on Hawaii by presenting to students, parents and the community, a luau.  The students researched foods of Hawaii as well as cooking methods.  Thanks to the Arts Grant and Hoonah Recycling, we were able to purchase pork, rice, spam, sushi rice, fruit, mochi and pineapple.  This resulted in a delicious dinner for the guests!  The students found out it took a great deal of effort to make 100 pieces of spam musabi, but their efforts were well appreciated.  A highlight of the evening, was the explanation of how the class built ukeleles and then performed a song for the guests.  The cafeteria was decorated in festive colors and leis were provided for all.  We had a great time bringing a little bit of Hawaii to Hoonah.

A Special Thank you
