During this unit, students are learning about the amazing history of Hoonah through historical photographs. A major part of this project is the exploration of the Huna Heritage Foundation's digital archives. As students learn about these photographs and how to navigate the site, they also are exploring the historic photographs that have been in the school since the 1980s. This is a continuing project that combines multidisciplinary learning for students in history and language arts.
Students are also learning how to ask open-ended interview style questions from culture bearers, like Jeff Skafelstad, who has played a significant part in curating the digital archives, and also Gordon and Chris Greenwald, who have donated their collection to the archive project.
